InterContinental Hotels Group PLC is apparently is doing well as it posted for July,2011 a revenue-per-room gain of 5.6%, including a 2.7% increase in the average rate.

IHG is the owner of the Holiday Inn, InterContinental and Crowne Plaza hotel brands, plans to expand further with a new upscale brand in China and another midmarket brand in the United States.

I think it is news to many of you that Leisure travel, particularly in the last downturn, was very resilient and continues to grow. However on the corporate front, for the most part, business profits have been stable with no decline in sight.

IHG already has 154 hotels in China, and now the company is planning a new upscale brand to serve most importantly the Chinese traveler needs and is indeed an excellent opportunity for IHG to dominate what would become the World’s largest economy. Especially with IHG target market of the upper-upscale Hospitality segment .In Shanghai IHG has few establishments under the name of Crowne Plaza and InterContinental.

The plan is to launch the New Brand in China in 2012.

IHG already is the largest player in the midscale hotel market, with 2,664 Holiday Inns and Holiday Inn Expresses in North and South America, however a new brand is planned for launch which would be be a full-service brand with restaurants, pools and other amenities unlike the limited service Holiday Inn Express brand.
