Attractions that Kids Will Love in Blackpool

Blackpool may have a reputation (deservedly) for being the Las Vegas of the north of the UK, but there is a lot more to the resort than the pubs and clubs, although adults are bound to see these as major attractions for obvious reasons!  But apart from the Golden Mile, what else does Blackpool have to offer the younger members of the family?

The Beach

This may be the most obvious of Blackpool’s child-friendly attractions, but don’t overlook this fabulous stretch of sand.  When the weather is good, nothing beats spending a day on the sand, building sandcastles and paddling in the sea.  You can hire a deckchair, soak up some sun and read a book while your kids burn off excess energy digging holes in the sand.

The Pleasure Beach

Everyone loves to have fun at the fair!  In the old days, the Pleasure Beach was the place to go if you liked candy floss and fake tattoos.  It had a few dodgy rides and lots of stalls inviting visitors to test their skills on various games.  The Pleasure Beach was hardly Alton Towers, but it was good fun all the same.  However, it has had a face lift since then and today’s modern Pleasure Beach has more than one hundred great rides, kids’ attractions and exciting shows.  In fact there is so much there for kids, you may struggle to tear them away at the end of the day.

Blackpool Ice Arena

Sadly Blackpool is not always blessed with the best of the British weather: yes, it does occasionally rain up north.  So when the weather is rubbish and the thought of spending another minute in the amusement arcades is too much to bear, take the kids to the Ice Arena and spend the day dancing on ice!  And if you don’t want to join the kids on the ice, you can grab a coffee, take a seat and watch from the comfy seats.

Sea Life Centre

Blackpool’s famous Sea Life centre is home to some fantastic aquatic creatures.  Kids will love getting up close and personal with tropical sharks, jellyfish, turtles, seahorses, piranhas and rays.  There is also a ‘Phantoms of the Deep’ attraction for a bit of extra intrigue.

Model Village and Gardens

Anyone who has seen Gulliver’s Travels and thought it looked cool will love the Blackpool model village set in 2 acres of beautiful gardens.  This kid-friendly attraction is ideal for children of all ages - they will have a great time pretending to be giants whilst wandering around the pint sized buildings, of which there are plenty.  Younger children will also love the numerous water features, which range from small streams to large ponds full of colourful fish.

Blackpool Zoo

Kids of any age adore going to the zoo, so no trip to Blackpool would be complete without a day spent at the zoo.  Blackpool Zoo has more than one hundred different species of animals, including all of the big names: lions, tigers, gorillas, elephants and giraffes.  There are even dinosaurs!

Indoor Play Barn

If the weather is cold, wet and windy and sitting on the beach is not an option, take the kids to the Aardvark Adventure Playbarn.  This fabulous attraction is a three level indoor play area and is perfect for keeping younger children entertained for a few hours.  There is a sensory area for toddlers and babies, walkways and climbing frames for older kids and slides for kids of all ages.

Sandcastle Waterworld

Another fabulous indoor attraction for those all too frequent rainy days is Blackpool’s award winning water park.  It features indoor water chutes, tranquil pools and waterfalls galore, so if you fancy chilling out in sub-tropical temperatures for a day, this is definitely the place to go.

If you are visiting Blackpool with the kids, there is no better place to stay than Haven Cala Gran; if you just want to relax for the day, you can do so in the knowledge that your kids are fully entertained.

Thanks for the list

That is a whole list of attractive destinations for Kids, wondering why Disneyland is not on the list :)
