Outdoor Pursuits In Staffordshire

Staffordshire offers plenty of options for the visitor to get active. Quite apart from the obvious attractions of the local countryside and Alton Towers theme park, there are several activity centres which are well worth considering. If you need some summer action then check out these places for a great day out!

Go Ape

Situated at beautiful Cannock Chase, Go Ape is a fabulous adventure for the whole family. Swing around the treetops, climb rope ladders and fly down zip lines in wonderful countryside and safe conditions. Go Ape have several centres in the UK but this is the longest of their courses. You don’t need any experience or special equipment just a pair of gloves and casual clothes. Be careful not to wear anything you don’t want to get dirty as you are going to get grubby landing on damp bark chips! Full training is given before you set out and then you can tackle the course at your own pace.

Cannock Chase Trekking Centre

After your adrenaline rush zip lining why not try horse riding as well? This centre offers adventures in the forest for riders of all abilities including complete beginners. There is a great selection of horses for both adults and children over 7 years of age to enjoy. Younger children can take starter lessons to get a feel for riding. You don’t need any equestrian equipment to ride as everything you need will be provided. Trek all day or for just a couple of hours in the English Countryside for a wonderful day out.

SnowDome

The SnowDome in Tamworth offers a spectacular range of sporting and fun activities year round. The 170m ski slope provides skiers and snowboarders with real snow 12 months of the year but if you can’t ski there are beginner’s lessons to get you started and a range of fun activities on the snow that require no previous experience. Adults and kids can try out adrenaline tubing on the slopes or test out their skills on the ice rink. There is also a children’s snow park for fun and games and a 25m swimming pool if you fancy something a little more relaxing.

Staffordshire is certainly not all about theme parks and potteries. There are plenty of exciting things to do in the area with activities to suit all tastes and abilities. It is not the most obvious of tourist destinations but give this country a try and you will have a pleasant surprise.
